My Private Angel
For Madison
I have a private angel
She’s smaller than you’d think
She doesn’t ask for diamonds
She don’t give a damn about mink

Her love’s for me just as I am
I’d never want to change her
I tuck her in with a kiss good night
I keep her safe from danger

She likes to play monopoly
But hey she’s only 6
You should see her eyes when she’s laughing
At my stupid cigarette tricks

Her daddy he’s a lifer
3 strikes for a four dollar crime
You know she’s never met him
But she says she will sometime

Kids I think don’t need a father
But they need a daddy for sure
So that’s the role I’m playing
Though I’m not related to her

This unconditional loving
Is something everyone should know
And have a special angel
To protect and watch them grow

I’m not quite sure the reason why
God gave me this gift of love
I’m just grateful that I’ve known
My private angel from above
