Sweet madness come to me
Prancing like a fool court jester
Shake your bell encrusted scepter
Deep within this brain
That suffers from the weight of boredom
Like a great burden pressing down upon my chest
As I gasp out loud
Seeking only one more breath
One more bee to pollinate my imagination
So it can blossom once again
Like the laughter of young girls
Who once cackled aloud
About loves tribulations
Now just ghostly voices
In the courtyards of mighty castles
Long since turned to dust
Sweet madness come to me
Not sneak footed like some thief
Creeping up from behind in the darkness
More like a marching band cymbals crashing
Singing loudly for all to hear
"Be kind to your web footed friends"
Festooned in silly hats with feathers erect
Like some Sousa hard on
Back arched and chest thrust out
Proud of the joy you will bring
Chasing away this death dirge
That holds sway upon my mind
So that we may march together
To that mysterious land of La La
That folks so often speak
Yet none can describe
Sweet madness come to me
On the imagined wings of loves dove
Who's feet perceived by madness
Become mighty talons to grasp me
And carry me up into the air
And away to lush memories meadows
Where in some hidden valley in my mind
I can once again dance with her
And hold and kiss her sweetly
And swear my undying love
And be like a young man again
And not some old withered fool
Who can now only speak with words
Which once flowed so easily from my lips
But can now only be read by others
To whom I do not speak
Sweet madness come to me
Like a flame to dried brush
Roaring upward along the dry creek bed
That once flowed with happy thought
Now dusty and rock strewn
Parched like my wrinkled gaze
Flickering in the firelight
Unrecognized in this old mirror
That once held your glorious face
But now only reflects truth unwanted
Burn away my memories and visions
Leave me addled and drooling
Taken by times dementia to the unknown
And to the unseen and unspoken place
Where your glory must reside
Sweet madness please...
I beg you
