The Light Keeper
Can I have a piece of your light?
You see I'm lost
I'm in a dark place
I can't see where to go
I was left here
By my old light
I should have noticed
She was getting dim
I had never seen a light
As bright as hers
It enthralled me
I couldn't stop looking
Maybe I got used to it
And didn't notice the dimming
Or maybe I made it dim
By getting used to it
I always expected
It would last
I thought loves batteries
Were endless
Then I blinked
And it was dark
I called out for it
But it never answered
It never shown again
It never warmed me again
It could have blinked
I told it once
I wasn't a light keeper
Maybe that's why it left
It found a light keeper
Now I need a new light
Can I have a piece of yours?
