Warm Smile Drive
I was doing the Hendrix Cross Town Traffic thing
When I saw a street I'd never seen
Now I wanted more time to hear Jimi sing
So I turned when the light changed to green

I drove past the houses on this small sunny street
Seeing nothing out of the norm
When my car quit running in the afternoon heat
My engine was way too warm

Then people started streaming from out of their homes
They asked if they could render aid
Their concern and kindness warmed me to my bones
As an offer of cold water was made

I thanked them kindly touched by their concern
Then borrowed some ones water hose
I cooled the engine till it once more would turn
Then a young girl offered me a rose

I looked at the street sign as I drove from there
This street called Warm Smile Drive
Got me to think how folks used to care
And shared the joy of being alive

Then a horn woke me up from what I had dreamed
About a time when we acted right
I'd gone to sleep or so it seemed
I was still at the same traffic light

Jimi was singing about the wind crying Mary
You know how that one goes
Then I looked on the seat and next to me
Was a single long stem red rose

I pulled to the curb to look at my map
Warm Smile Drive was just not there
So I folded it up and dropped it in my lap
No such street but I didn't care

Now if while you're driving, that street you might find
Would you please oh please let me know
To live on that street has been on my mind
To that time I'd sure like to go

When people were nice and people were sweet
Kind souls from a gentler day
Hang a left on Daydream to get to that street
And you will find me dreaming away
